Vacation Artfully in Pensacola, Florida

The 6th Annual Foo Foo Festival arrives in Pensacola, Florida, October 31 – November 11.  The popular arts and culture festival, one of the largest in the Southeast, spans an impressive 12 days and features innovative artists from all genres.  This year’s Foo Foo Fest line up runs the gamut from renowned jazz band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Multi-Grammy nominated musician Marsha Ambrosius to The Savannah Sipping Society and Fire and Rain – a sea of billowing holographic strands suspended above historic Intendencia Street.

Grapes & Grains

The recently opened Grapes & Grains in Johns Creek is a specialty retailer offering more than 6,000 unique wines, craft beers and premium and specialty spirits.  This locally owned business is located on the corner of Jones Bridge Road and Old Alabama Road, adjacent to the Camden Village shopping center where Marlow’s Tavern and Stone’s Cuisine and Cocktails reside, with a beautiful updated farmhouse design and wide aisles with a relaxed sales environment.  Online ordering, a curbside pickup with a drive-thru.

Elegant Elf Marketplace Nov. 9-10

The Sandy Springs Society will host their 9th annual “shopping for a cause” fundraiser at City Springs and The Performing Arts Center in Sandy Springs. This stylish gift market features more than 90 carefully selected vendors offering hand-crafted items, exquisite artistic creations and gourmet delights.  Sandy Springs residentAnnette Joseph, a well-known author and nationally recognized expert on entertaining, cooking, and styling, will serve as honorary chair.

International Fest

The Clarkston Community Center will present its Fourth Annual International Food & Wine Gala on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 7-10 p.m.  The popular event is designed to showcase the cuisine of many regions from which Clarkston’s international population hails, including Africa, Asia, Central America, the Middle East and more.  Guests will be invited to sample the various dishes provided by area chefs and restaurants, as well as taste a collection of international wines.  The evening includes live entertainment and a Global Arts & Crafts Market with works by local and international artists sold only by the Clarkston Community Center.  The event is a fundraiser for the Center, which serves over 60,000 people annually through educational offerings, recreational programs and community building.  Tickets are $40 per person in advance and $45 at the door.

School News

Alpharetta Elementary School was acknowledged by Niche, a rating and ranking platform, as one of the best schools in the state with an Overall grade of A. Thanks to generous support from Vickery Mill Elementary School’s PTA, the school opened a STEM Lab this school year. Students visit the lab once a week for hands-on, collaborative lessons integrating science and math standards into a real-world situation. Webb Bridge Middle School students promoted awareness of Childhood Cancer and Suicide Prevention by wearing yellow. Wellness has now been integrated into daily Compass (guidance) classes every nine weeks. Licensed professionals from LRJ Foundation are helping implement new interactive content that aims to build students’ emotional intelligence Alpharetta High School’s girls’ volleyball team made the Top 25 National High School Volleyball Rankings on MaxPreps, a web source for high school sports.

CinéBistro Opens

CMX CinéBistro Halcyon and new-to-market CMX Stone Sports Bar opened recently, offering an elevated dinner-and-a-movie experience for the Alpharetta and South Forsyth communities to enjoy. The third CMX CinéBistro Georgia location is in the new Halcyon development and features a chef-crafted menu prepared in a scratch kitchen, as well as an extensive wine and beer list and craft cocktails made by talented mixologists. White Oak Pastures turkeys play an important part in our 10-species rotational grazing program, which is regenerating land and sequestering greenhouse gases. All our poultry is 100% Pasture-Raised, Certified Non-GMO, Certified Humane, and the pastures are Certified Organic. As a commitment to the welfare of our animals, we process poultry on our farm in a USDA-inspected, zero-waste abattoir.
