Too many date night options in and around Atlanta might be the reason your couples’ night out is feeling stale. With too many options, some guys wind up trying to split the difference and end up at the same old bar or restaurant. For guys looking to up their date night cred, Chukkar Farm provides ambiance, music, and originality nearly every weekend from May through October.
James Casto, drummer and host of Home By Dark since starting the event at Scottdale Farms in Milton 12 years ago, says the combination of the farm-setting and format—Nashville “in the round” where the singers and musicians interact with each other and the audience—lends itself to a perfect date night option in Alpharetta.
Tables of two and four are most common, but Home By Dark can accommodate groups of up to 10 people. Though food is not available for purchase, think of it more like a tailgate. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m., and tables are on the outskirts of the polo field. Casto says the set-ups vary from buckets of chicken to tablecloths and fine china, but that the social aspect and spirit of bringing friends makes for an exciting night.
Casto and his band stick to the “in the round” format popularized in Nashville, and as a former touring performer regularly enlists friends and acquaintances from all over the country to come and perform original music. The songs and format are meant to connect the artist and audience and Casto says, “It’s a unique show with romantic elements and unique setting.” You never know who might stop by: Performers like Christopher Cross and Patty Loveless have shown up in the past.
This summer Home By Dark welcomes singer-songwriter Billy Montana, known for working on hit songs with Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw. In the fall, the talented Danny Mitchell, currently on tour with Miranda Lambert, will drop by the farm. Tickets tend to sell out, so if you don’t wind up making it to Chukkar Farm for a show, they’ll also be hosting a few one-off shows at the Brooke Street Park in downtown Alpharetta a few Saturdays this summer.
