High Tech View 1

From your thermostat to your lights, transforming your house into a smart home is simple. Today’s technology makes it easy to remember your preferences and, in some cases, anticipate your needs and wants. Why shouldn’t your window coverings be the same way?

Hunter Douglas agreed. In this day and age, it’s easy to blend form and function, style and technology, which is why PowerView is the hottest new thing in home décor.

Using an app, PowerView automatically moves your blinds and shades throughout the day, according to your predetermined settings.  Installation is easy; everyday use even easier.

“You can transform light and mood throughout the home,” says Andrea Zare, owner and CEO of Classic Blinds & Shutters, a Hunter Douglas gallery here in Atlanta. “It’s so easy for homeowners to synchronize Hunter Douglas window treatments to the rhythm of their lives.”

The PowerView system is available with many of the lines Hunter Douglas already carries, including Applause, Design Studio, Designer Roller Shades, Duette, Silhouette, Pirouette, Vignette and Woven Woods. Installation is easy and quick, and the battery pack is conveniently hidden behind the upper portion of the blind or shade.  Once installed, you can control PowerView via the associated PowerView app or a physical controller.

If you choose the controller, you have two different options – a Pebble Remote Control or a Pebble Scene Controller. The former allows you to both pre-set and operate up to six groupings of window treatments, while the latter is a bit more advanced. The Pebble Scene controller features a display screen where you can choose, preview and set room scenes. Both remotes come in a wide range of colors; both can be mounted to the wall for easier storage.

The PowerView app is an entirely different ball game. The app works on your phone or tablet, and you don’t have to be at home for it to work. Each window shade you have PowerView installed on begins with a Scene, which is different combinations of each shade in the room, set to the different positions you want throughout the day based on light and atmosphere preference. Then, use the Schedule option to move your window coverings during specific days or times. You can even coordinate scenes to your local sunrise and sunset time. And changing a Scene is simple – adjust your preferences inside the Scene option in the app, at any time, and you have the option of saving your favorite Scenes and shades on the home page. There is no limit to the number of window coverings you can add; from one to 12, Hunter Douglas allows for as many as your home can handle, and different coverings can be used in the same room.

One of the most popular features is the whole-home integration option, which allows PowerView to couple with popular smart home devices including Nest, Apple HomeKit, Logitech, Elan, Savant, and more, as well as Amazon Echo and Alexa products.

“They’re intelligent shades that merge style and technology with convenience,” Zare says.

PowerView isn’t just about customization and style, however.  The automation of window treatments contributes to a lower energy bill, as well as a safer environment for young children and pets.

Technology is an amazing thing – and when it allows us to customize even the most basic of things, who wouldn’t want a completely smart house?
