Right now, there are 540 students enrolled in Forsyth County’s schools that identify as homeless. Even with such prosperity and affluent members of our community, local homeless families work day by day, struggling to make ends meet. With efforts from Elite Roofing & Restoration and Family Promise of Forsyth County, homeless children and adults will benefit from funds that will be raised on May 16 at The Manor Golf and Country Club.
The first Elite Roofing & Restoration Charity Golf Tournament plans to bring our city together for an enjoyable yet meaningful day on the green. Taking place with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., this tournament will feature intermingling celebrity golf teams, a silent auction, raffle, door prizes, putting contests, an awards reception with live music, and awareness of a close-to-home issue within our community. A Hole in One and Longest Drive contest among others will entice all players to compete at their highest potential. With teams of four taking their time at the tee while strategizing against local celebrities, you can expect nothing but quality competition geared towards the support of Family Promise of Forsyth.
Guests of the tournament can expect to take some swings with celebrities like former heavyweight champion Cedric Boswell, former New York Giants’ Linebacker Corey Miller, and former Atlanta Falcons’ cornerback Ray Buchanan. The Manor boasts the only Tom Watson-designed championship course in the state, and this par-72 course showcases the beauty of the country club and gorgeous, blooming Milton. You’ll undoubtedly be focusing on your game, your surroundings, and the great cause behind the entire day.
Based in Cumming, Elite Roofing & Restoration, a full service general contracting team specializing in roofing and repairs, prides themselves on over 25 years of satisfaction and service in the area. They strive to serve Cherokee, Cobb, Dawson, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Lumpkin and Pickens Counties and continue giving back to these areas through their work and their charitable efforts. As such, Elite Roofing & Restoration and Family Promise are working closer than ever to alleviate the number of homeless families.
“We are also very proud and excited that Jeremy Johnson, president of Elite Roofing & Restoration, is one of the newest members on our board of directors,” says Jacob Granados, director of Family Promise of Forsyth County.
Both Johnson and Granados look forward to the impact that the golf tournament will have and to the opportunity to inform our neighbors about this existing issue.
“Over 540 students in Forsyth County lack safe, stable, and secure housing of their own and we need to people know about these children and be moved to action,” Granados says.
They believe that the local community will appreciate the dramatic impact that their participation can make among families and children in our city. Not only do the funds allow for food and supplies to be purchased, but Family Promise also ensures that families earn the resources and opportunities to get back into their own home again and even acquire the tools to sustain their independence. For every dollar that’s invested in Family Promise of Forsyth County, $3 of goods and services are put back into the community.
“When our supporters invest in Family Promise, they can do so knowing that their dollars are making a significant impact in the community and in the lives of the families we serve,” Granados says.
Through the funds raised in May, homeless families and children will be provided with housing and food, life skills classes, financial literacy classes, and assistance with saving money. Boasting a 74% success rate nationally, Family Promise operates knowing that almost three-quarters of the lives they touch are provided with safe, secure and stable housing–and, they plan to extend that reach in Forsyth County through this upcoming tournament.
