Four Steps To Take After A Car Wreck

If you are in the unfortunate position of being injured in a vehicle collision, this article provides the first four steps we should all take to ensure the car accident is handled properly.

First, immediately after the accident occurs, call 911 for the police.  Even if you believe it would be unnecessary to call the police to report the accident scene, call the police regardless, because the at-fault driver may not keep their promise of fixing your vehicle’s damage.

Furthermore, the at-fault driver may not have current auto insurance despite showing you their insurance card, because the information on the insurance card is as old as the card itself and is not real time information.

Secondly, if you are feeling any pain or discomfort, be sure to request that an ambulance arrive at the scene to transport you to a local emergency room to be checked out. With the level of adrenaline someone feels just after a car wreck, it is easy to think you are fine and there is no need for any further medical attention.

However, you could have damage to your neck or back or you may have internal bleeding that is undetectable without medical attention. Do not be concerned with the cost of your medical treatment, because the insurance company for the at-fault driver will provide compensation for your medical bills.

Thirdly, seek subsequent medical treatment if recommended or you are still in pain.  The most important consideration after a car wreck is your health.  Take care of yourself by receiving the proper medical attention for your injuries.

Finally, contact an experienced personal injury lawyer who you are comfortable with and will fight for you to achieve the best result your case deserves.
